This course gives you the knowledge and skills to plan, supervise, and carry out lifting operations both onshore and offshore. You’ll move from understanding the regulations to practising calculations, equipment use, and safe procedures—so you’re ready to lead with confidence.

Introduction to lifting operations
Regulations, standards, and the lifting/rigging supervisor role
Selection of lifting accessories
Load estimation and calculations
Hazard identification and risk assessment
Safe lifting procedures and emergency planning
Roles and responsibilities of a lifting supervisor
Supervision of lifting operations and correct use of PPE
Reading and understanding lifting drawings and plans
Load computation: sling tension at different angles, centre of gravity, and SWL
Procedures for heavy and critical (complex) lifts
Inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment
Course recap, Q&A, written assessment, and practical exercises
Equipment knowledge:
Wire rope construction and characteristics
Webbing slings, chains, and accessories
Winches and lifting tackles
Safety harnesses and fall arrestors
Sling angles, hitches, and offshore crane safety requirements

By completing this course, you’ll be able to:
Explain categories of lifting operations (onshore and offshore)
Understand the legal and regulatory framework
Identify and carry out the roles and responsibilities of a lifting supervisor
Plan and prepare lifting operations, including lifting plans and safe work documentation
Supervise and coordinate lifting activities
Identify hazards, assess risks, and correct unsafe practices
Perform load calculations and assess stability
Choose the correct equipment for a lift and know when to take it out of service (damage, wear, or expired certification)
Understand construction, care, and inspection of lifting equipment, including wire ropes
Promote a strong safety culture and compliance in lifting operations
